Good morning, Kindergarten!
Today is Thursday. The weather is supposed to be nice today! I hope you get to go outside and play in your backyard. I plan to spend some time outside today, too. Today makes 124 days of Kindergarten!
Love,
Mrs. Bradley
Math Warm-Up: Count to 100 with Jack Hartmann!
Today we will take a look at how number bonds can help us represent subtraction! Click to watch the video with Mrs. Bradley. There are problems included for you to complete at the end.
Log into IXL on the computer or iPad and work on "Section K - Subtraction up to 5" for at least 10 minutes.
ABC Warm-Up: Get out your ABC chart. You are going to start with Z and go backwards up to A. As you point to each letter say the sound ONLY (not the letter name or the picture).
Phonemic Awareness & Phonics: Click the video to listen to Mrs. Bradley for today's activities.
See what others are up to! Click on our class Padlet and add a picture of you with someone in your family.
It's easy to add a post, just click the plus sign, then hit the upload arrow to add your picture or video!
Yesterday, we wrote first drafts of our How-To stories. I tried to get Mr. Bradley to follow my directions on How To Brush Your Teeth, but it didn't work out quite the way I had planned... He put the tube of toothpaste on top of the toothbrush without opening it. He used a hairbrush to brush his teeth, and then he danced while holding a cup of water instead of swishing in his mouth. Then he spit in the bathtub. It was terrible! His teeth didn't even get cleaned.
When I went back to look at my instructions, I realized that my details were not clear! Watch the linked video for another example of directions that didn't quite go as planned. What went wrong???
Today, I want you to look at your writing from yesterday. Brainstorm ideas for how you might be able to add more details and make it more specific. Imagine someone is following your directions who has NO idea what you are talking about. What else can you add to make it clear? Make notes on your writing. We will write a new, detailed version of your story tomorrow!
Read books that are "just right" for you... not too hard and not too easy. You may use the books Mrs. Bradley sent home with you, other books at your house, or Kids A-Z (Raz Kids) books by logging in on the iPad or computer. Read for at least 15 minutes.
Water Draw
Use a paintbrush, a piece of paper, and a cup of water to write your sight words.
Roll It
Use a piece of paper, die, and something to write with. Roll the die and write your sight word that many times. Repeat for each word on your list.
Flashlight Word Hunt
Write your sight words on flash cards or pieces of paper and tape them around the room. Turn off the lights and use a flashlight to find and read your words!
Play Doh
Form the words using play-doh. Trace your finger over each letter as you read the word.
Ask your adult for a plate and fill it with something from the spice cabinet (salt, sugar, flour, etc). Using your finger, practice forming your letters (uppercase and lowercase) using your best Summit handwriting!
Watch and listen with Mrs. Bradley through the video linked to the left! Then, go in your backyard and look for examples of each of the parts of a plant. (stem, leaf, roots, seed, flower, petal).
Use a happy moment to ‘soak in the good’ by pausing with your child to observe the pleasant physical and emotional feelings present
Add to your weather chart each day.
Parents, please read this letter from Senora Raven!
