Good morning, Kindergarten!
Today is Tuesday. I have planned a lot of fun things for you to try at home to keep your brain growing and your neurons connecting! How many days have we been in school? Before spring break, it was day 121. Today makes 122 days of Kindergarten! Can you skip-count by 5s to 105?
Love,
Mrs. Bradley
We are going to start learning how to SUBTRACT or take away numbers. Watch the video and follow along with your snap cubes at home.
Now, I want you to get your snap cubes ready to do a few more problems.
Set up 5 snap cubes in front of you. Write numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 randomly on a piece of paper. Close your eyes and point to any number! Cross out the number you landed on.
Now, you need to subtract that number of cubes from your 5 snap cubes. Write a number sentence to match your cubes. Make sure to write and read your number sentence out loud!
(Example: If I pointed to the number 3, my number sentence would be 5-3=2. I would read that number sentence as 5 take away 3 equals 2.)
Repeat this until you've landed on all numbers and written the number sentence to match.
Log into IXL on the computer or iPad and work on "Section K - Subtraction up to 5" for at least 10 minutes.
ABC Warm-Up: Get out your ABC Chart. Touch each letter on the alphabet chart. Spy something in your house (or where ever you are) that starts with the same beginning sound.
Phonemic Awareness & Phonics: Click the video to listen to Mrs. Bradley for today's activities.
Time to listen to a story! After listening, talk about the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Discuss the main characters and the setting (where the story took place). Can you make any personal connections to the story?
You can choose a story online or ask someone to read to you. Here are some websites with online stories:
See what others are up to! Click on our class Padlet and add a picture of you in your favorite spot (at home or where ever you are!)
We are now going to be starting a special nonfiction unit- we’re going to use our writing to show other people how to do something! Ask someone to help you make a list of things you know how to do REALLY well. We say you are an EXPERT if you know how to do something well. For example, Mrs. Bradley is an expert at brushing her teeth and making grilled cheese sandwiches.
What you’re going to do now is pick a topic to write about - it should be something that you know how to do really well, something that you are an expert at. When you know your topic, have someone help you fill out there form next to this post!
Now, I want you to get your writing journal out and find the next blank page. The ONLY thing I want you to write in your journal today is the title of your story. How To Brush Your Teeth would be my title.
Yours will look like.... How To ________________.
Read books that are "just right" for you... not too hard and not too easy. You may use the books Mrs. Bradley sent home with you, other books at your house, or Kids A-Z (Raz Kids) books by logging in on the iPad or computer. Read for at least 15 minutes.
Water Draw
Use a paintbrush, a piece of paper, and a cup of water to write your sight words.
Roll It
Use a piece of paper, die, and something to write with. Roll the die and write your sight word that many times. Repeat for each word on your list.
Flashlight Word Hunt
Write your sight words on flash cards or pieces of paper and tape them around the room. Turn off the lights and use a flashlight to find and read your words!
Play Doh
Form the words using play-doh. Trace your finger over each letter as you read the word.
Ask your adult for a plate and fill it with something from the spice cabinet (salt, sugar, flour, etc). Using your finger, practice forming your letters (uppercase and lowercase) using your best Summit handwriting!
Go get a shoe from the closet. Is it alive? How do you know? Can you give some examples of things that are alive?
Click to watch the video about living and nonliving things.
After watching, talk about these important concepts from the video:
living
nonliving
organism
Make a chart to show things you know about living and nonliving things. What do living things need to survive? Do nonliving things grow? Do they change? Do living things grow and change?
Print out and complete the living and nonliving picture sort (linked to the left).
Lay down flat on the floor. Close your eyes, and then squeeze and let go, tensing different muscles in the body for 5 seconds and then slowing releasing.
Make a weather chart or print one out (linked to the left). Each day, mark 1 or 2 squares to track the weather!
Parents, please read this letter from Senora Raven!
Martes: Watch the video La Primavera!
