Good morning, Kindergarten!
I hope you had an amazing three-day weekend! I know I got a lot of projects done around my house. What was your favorite part of the weekend? You may have heard that we won't be able to return to our Kindergarten classroom as we had hoped. We will continue learning online and through exploration at home for a few more weeks before summer break. We will continue to grow our brains and make new connections between neurons!
Our Zoom class meeting will include a directed drawing of a frog. Hope to see you there! Today makes 135 days of Kindergarten!
Love,
Mrs. Bradley
Estimate: 20 minutes
Math Warm-Up: Do 10 wall push-ups, but count by tens, starting at 30!
Today's Lesson: Today we will begin our exploration of the clock! Discuss the following:
Why is it important to tell time?
Have you ever been late to get somewhere? What was it like?
Name some things you must be on time for.
Now, I would like you to create a large clock on the floor! Can you help place all of the pieces and learn what they are for?
You will need:
12 pieces of paper (index card sized), labeled 1-12
1 long arrow (labeled hour hand)
1 shorter arrow (labeled minute hand)
Practice: Your job is to use the pieces above and try to organize them into a clock on your floor. You may use an example clock after you give it a shot by yourself first. Notice where the number 12 sits on the clock. What number is directly across from it? (6). We measure time using hours, which can be shown on a clock. Each number (1-12) represents a different hour of the day.
Move the hour hand (orange) on this clock. Play with it to see if you can represent different hours of the day, like 4:00 or 7:00. When you're done, log into IXL and complete section P.1.
Challenge (not required): Parking Time Game
Estimate: 15 minutes
ABC Warm-Up:
Phonemic Awareness: Listen with Mrs. Bradley to identify whether or not sets of words rhyme.
Phonics: Listen with Mrs. Bradley to review the digraphs CH, SH, TH. Read the words in the linked slide deck.
Estimate: 10 minutes
You can choose a story online or ask someone to read to you. Here are some websites with online stories:
See what others are up to! Click on our class Padlet and add a picture of you or comment on your friends' pictures!
Read-to-Self: Read books that are "just right" for you... not too hard and not too easy. You may use the books Mrs. Bradley sent home with you, other books at your house, or Kids A-Z (Raz Kids) books by logging in on the iPad or computer. Read for at least 15 minutes.
Estimate: At least 15 minutes.
Sight Words: Practice your sight words by choosing an activity off of this sight word choice board!
Estimate: 5 minutes.
Estimate: 15 minutes
This week we get to practice something VERY exciting. You are going to practice writing on the computer! This is called typing. Using computers to write down our words can be very useful... for example... I typed these words at my house for you to read at your house! Follow the steps below for today's lesson.
Log into your Summit Google Drive account at www.google.com/drive (If you don't know your password, look for the email Mrs. Bradley sent your parents last week. If you still don't know, just ask Mrs. Bradley for a reminder!)
Go to your Digital Portfolio Shared Folder.
Click "New" then "Google Docs"
Title your Document "_____'s Typing Practice" (but put your name in the blank)
Type your first and last name in the document.
That's all you need to type in your document today! Mrs. Bradley will check your digital portfolio to make sure it's saved in the right spot. Now, you need to learn how to place your fingers on the computer keyboard correctly.
Practice typing by following along with these lessons for at least 10 minutes.
Estimate: 15 minutes
Today, we're going to focus on SELF-CONFIDENCE! Having confidence in yourself means that you think positively of yourself and your abilities and you know that you can try new things, even if you fail! What do you like most about yourself? Listen to the story I Like Myself. Discuss or make a list of the reasons you like yourself!
Estimate: 15 minutes
Do you know why plants are important to people? Check out these websites to learn more about how we eat different parts of plants, use them to make medicine, furniture, homes, and more!
Estimate: 5 minutes
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and with your arms at your side. Close your eyes and visualize a windy day. Think about the wind. Imagine that you are this wind. Open your eyes and slowly extend your arms. Begin to sway your body from side to side, without moving your feet. Allow your legs to bend slightly at the knee. Softly begin to inhale and slowly exhale. Remind yourself that you are strong like the wind. You are able to carry and release many things within different places. As you continue to blow across the earth, release all overwhelming emotions and thoughts that you might be feeling at this moment. Allow your mind to relax as you think about your new daily routine. Consider how these new changes are working and how you can blend them into your everyday life. (From Responsive Classroom)
Add to your weather chart each day.
For Leer Lunes, Señora Raven will be reading a story to you about the Butterfly Life Cycle. Plus, you get your very own copy to color and read any time you’d like! Here’s the video and story!
Pregunta del Día: What are the 4 stages of the butterfly life cycle? (huevo, orgua, crisálida, mariposa).
