Good morning, Kindergarten!
Today is Friday. Are you getting a little more used to our new method of learning from home? I really miss being with you, but I am so happy we still get to learn together! What are your plans for the weekend? I want you to skip-count by 2s as high as you can. If you'd like, skip-count with Jack Hartmann!
Today makes 125 days of Kindergarten!
Love,
Mrs. Bradley
Math Warm-Up: Skip-count by 5s as high as you can. Try and get to 105.
Today's Lesson: I would like you to rewatch yesterday's video on using number bonds to help us understand subtraction. When it gets to the "Your Turn" part (around 8 minutes), see below for your new subtraction problems!
Practice: Draw a number bond to solve these problems. Even if you know how to solve them without drawing a number bond, I would still like you to draw it out. This will help your brain understand the relationships between numbers even better!
8 - 3 =
4 - 0 =
6 - 2 =
7 - 5 =
Challenge (not required): Try your hand at Pacman subtraction here!
ABC Warm-Up: You will need a timer for 1 minute! If you don't have one, you can use this digital timer. The slide deck linked to the left has upper and lowercase letters mixed in. Your job is to name the letters. Try to get through all of them before your time runs out!
Phonemic Awareness: Included in the audio recording, Mrs. Bradley will ask you to manipulate the final sounds in consonant-vowel-consonant words.
Phonics: Included in the audio recording, Mrs. Bradley will talk about the digraph TH. Your job will be to brainstorm TH words and make a poster, then stretch out and spell some TH words.
Today, I'd like you to listen to this story called Clorinda.
Before listening, discuss these questions:
Have you ever wanted to try something but thought you couldn’t do it?
Do you know anyone who said they couldn’t do something, but when they tried, they could do it?
What if you loved doing something but weren’t very good at it - would you keep doing it? How would you feel if others told you to stop trying?
After listening, discuss these questions:
What made Clorinda want to try to dance?
Those around Clorinda had different reactions to her dancing. How did they respond?
How did Clorinda respond to her critics?
What did Clorinda do to help herself reach her goals?
Did Clorinda do her best? Was her best as good as someone else’s best? Why did she receive applause at the end of the performance?
Have you ever done your very best and failed?
How did Clorinda’s friends change at the end?
We're taking a break from our "how-to" writing today. In your writing journal, tell the story of a time when you tried something and failed. What did you learn? What happened when you didn’t give up and continued to do your best?
Make sure to use your best Summit handwriting, finger spaces, lowercase letters, and end punctuation.
See what others are up to! Click on our class Padlet and add a picture of you in your favorite spot (at home or where ever you are!)
Click on the picture of a plant to the left to watch a video, or click here.
On that page, click on the "Quiz Whiz" orange icon to take a short quiz when you're done listening.
It's FRIDAY! You know what that means!! Finish any unfinished work from throughout the week. When that's done, find something creative and fun to do! Share a picture on our class Padlet!
Explore gratitude by going back and forth with your child (for as long as you can!) to name as many things possible that you are grateful for.
Add to your weather chart each day.
Viernes: Do you have your very own “la tierra” (the earth) at home? If not, that’s okay! I’ve found our newest country, Ecuador, on Google Maps for you!
Question: ¿Dónde está Venezuela? That was the country we studied last trimester! You may have to zoom out to see it but it’s super close to Ecuador! Don’t forget to point to it and say “¡Aqui!”
No music today. See you on Monday!

Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert
Draw or paint a picture and include all the colors of the rainbow. You can make each flower a different color and the leaves can be green, ROYGBV. Make sure each flower is a different shape and has a different pattern for its petals. Remember you are planting a rainbow!!!
*READ along book: It Could Still Be a Flower
* Nature Walk: Go for a walk with an adult and see if you can find any flowers blooming. Draw or take pictures of them. See if you can find one flower for each color of the rainbow.
