Good morning, Kindergarten!
Today is Tuesday. Can you believe it is the last day of March? What month comes next? I'm going to give you a riddle.... What is full of holes but still holds water? (try and answer it, but if you get stuck, the answer is at the bottom of this page!)
Today makes 127 days of Kindergarten!
Love,
Mrs. Bradley
This is one of my FAVORITE mindfulness activities and would be a great way to start your day. Click on the audio file to listen carefully through this guided meditation. It is about 4 minutes long.
Math Warm-Up: Your job is to count backwards from 20, like you are about to set off a rocket ship! Do it on your own or use this video to help you.
Today's Lesson: Today's focus will be learning the strategy of "Counting Back" to subtract. This great video explains how to count back by 1, 2, or 3. I want you to pay close attention to the new math words: minuend and subtrahend.
Practice: Log into IXL to continue practicing subtraction. Work on section K (Subtraction up to 5) and section L (Subtraction up to 10) for at least 10 minutes.
Challenge (not required): Find the missing subtrahend.
ABC Warm-Up: Sing the ABCs.
Phonemic Awareness: Help Mrs. Bradley change the final sound in several words by listening to the linked audio file.
Phonics: We're reviewing the SH digraph today! Listen to the linked audio file. You will make a poster of SH words (try and get at least 10). Now, you are going to listen and stretch out SH words with Mrs. Bradley.
See what others are up to! Click on our class Padlet and add a picture of you in your favorite spot (at home or where ever you are!)
Read-to-Self: Read books that are "just right" for you... not too hard and not too easy. You may use the books Mrs. Bradley sent home with you, other books at your house, or Kids A-Z (Raz Kids) books by logging in on the iPad or computer. Read for at least 15 minutes.
Handwriting: Grab some chalk. Go outside and write Aa-Zz on your driveway or sidewalk! If you don't have chalk, you can use a cup of water and a paintbrush to write on the concrete.
Before Reading:
Recall a time when you really wanted to do something and someone said, “That’s too hard for you.” Explain what you did and how you felt. In the story we're going to listen to, Grace is told that she can’t do something. Let’s see what Grace does...
After Reading:
The story says... “But Grace kept her hand up,” even when she was told she can’t do it. Why do you think she did that? What did it take for Grace to not let others change her mind?
When is it good to change your mind and when is it good to not change your mind?
What is the difference between good, better, best? Describe something you are ‘good’ at….what would you need to do to make it better? To make it best? How could you ask someone help you?
Today, it is ALL about the illustrations! Get out your How To book. Add another piece of blank paper to the front.. this will be your book cover! I want you to look at several books at your house. What is included on the front cover of a book? (Title, author name, picture). Decorate your front cover accordingly. A picture of my cover is included to the left! Now, go in to each page, reread what you wrote, and come up with a detailed illustration (or picture) to match your writing. Take your time and do your very best work!
Using building blocks from your house, choose something off this STEM choice board. Share a picture on our class Padlet when you're done!
You can also practice coding on Kodable.com or the Kodable app!
Add to your weather chart each day.
Martes: Draw a picture of la primavera (spring). Have your picture ready for Wednesday so you can show me your drawing during our time together during morning meeting. We’ll talk about some of the Spanish vocabulary associated with La Primavera!
Pregunta del día: What springtime word would you like to know how to say in Spanish?
