Good morning, Kindergarten!
I found this fun song that combines the months of the year with counting syllables! I hope you enjoy clapping, stomping, and singing along! How many syllables are in your name?? Your mom or dad's name? Your pet's name? Your teacher's name? 😃
Our Zoom class meeting will include a word guessing game called Balloon Pop. Hope to see you there! 🎈
Today makes 141 days of Kindergarten!
Love,
Mrs. Bradley
PS- don't forget to submit a self-portrait for our class t-shirt! More info here.
Estimate: 20 minutes
Math Warm-Up: Get your brain warmed up with some clock practice!
Today's Lesson: This is a tricky topic- but I know we can do it! Today we will learn how to tell time at the half hour. Watch the video to follow along with Mrs. Bradley.
Practice: Using this digital clock, make the following times:
4:30, 7:30, 6:30, 8:30
Try to only move the hour hand of the clock in a clockwise direction! Pay attention to how the hour hand moves slowly compared to the minute hand.
Challenge (not required): Telling Time to the Half-Hour Game
Estimate: 15 minutes
ABC Warm-Up: Sing and sign along with the ABC Chant!
Phonemic Awareness: Let's keep talking about syllables! Today we will practice isolating the last syllable in each word. Listen with Mrs. Bradley!
Phonics: We will take another look at the digraph /oo/ short and long sounds. Listen along with Mrs. Bradley! At the end, you will practice writing digraph oo words.
Read-to-Self: Read books that are "just right" for you... not too hard and not too easy. You may use the books Mrs. Bradley sent home with you, other books at your house, or Kids A-Z (Raz Kids) books by logging in on the iPad or computer. Read for at least 15 minutes.
Estimate: At least 15 minutes
Skills: Complete an episode of Headsprout on Kids A-Z.
Estimate: At least15 minutes
Estimate: 15 minutes
Today you are going to create a background for your Bio Poem and write your draft on a new piece of paper.
Background Artwork: Choose any piece of paper you have available. Decorate it with colors you like. You may cut up pieces of paper and collage them down, use crayons, markers, watercolors, oil pastels, magazine images, etc. Do not worry about making a scene/picture because you will be gluing your words down on top! It just needs to be full of colors, patterns, or shapes that make you happy!
Poem Template: Each line of your poem needs to be written down in a straight row. You may print the linked template it to use if you choose, or you can just write it on a different piece of paper. Cut your poem into strips, with one line of the poem on each strip of paper. Glue them down on your background! (Tomorrow your only "writing" job is to create a video of you reading your poem, so if you don't finish this part today- that's ok! You can work on it tomorrow some, too).
Dear Students,
Hello! My name is Sam. I am from River Falls, Nebraska. River Falls is a rural community. Rural communities are very quiet because there are not many people. In fact, only 1, 095 people live in my town, compared to about 8 million people living in New York City! I live on a farm, where we raise chickens, cows, and goats, and grow crops like corn and tomatoes. Most of what we need, we get from our own land, which is good because we have to travel a far distance to get to the closest town that has grocery and department stores. Even our own neighbors live 5 miles away! One good thing about my town is that there is no traffic. We get where we need to go by car, but sometimes we take our tractor or 4 wheeler if we’re not going too far. I think you would like it here! I know I do! Come visit soon!
Your Friend,
Sam

I have a very important message for you from a man named Sam who lives in a rural community! Click the audio file to listen and/or read the letter to the left!
When you're done with that, think about the differences between an URBAN community and a RURAL community. Another way to think of rural communities is "farming communities."
Rural communities are spread out, quiet, and usually have farms for animals or crops. I grew up in a rural community! My neighbor raised bison and several people in my neighborhood had horses or cows in their yards! There was a big fields of cotton, soybeans, and corn, near my house.
Watch this video. It talks about 3 types of communities.
Using what you've learned about rural communities, draw a picture that includes some things you might see while visiting a rural community.
