Good morning, Kindergarten!
Make sure to keep an eye on your mailbox over the next few days. You might receive something special! We will play 20 questions at our Zoom class meeting today. Hope to see you there! If you have time today, check out our new author study on Doreen Cronin (below).
Today makes 133 days of Kindergarten!
Love,
Mrs. Bradley
Estimate: 30 minutes
Math Warm-Up: Skip-count by 5s and 10s! Try to get as high as you can! (Stop if you get over 150!)
Today's Lesson: Tomorrow, we will take an assessment on subtraction. Today is a great day to practice your subtraction strategies again! Explain the following subtraction strategies to your learning partner. (Pretend you are the teacher!)
Draw a Picture to Subtract
Counting Back/Number Line Subtraction
Number Bond Subtraction
Subtracting Zero
Subtracting the Same Number (minuend & subtrahend are the same)
If you weren't sure about any of these, go back and watch this review video again.
Practice: Since you're the subtraction teacher today, I am going to leave it up to you! Do you feel you need more practice to be ready for the assessment tomorrow?? If so, create your own subtraction problems. You can roll a dice to find the minuend and subtrahend or you can ask someone to make up problems for you.
Challenge (not required): Math Test Game *select subtraction, 1-19
Estimate: 15 minutes
ABC Warm-Up: Play "What's One Above?" with your ABC Chart!
Phonemic Awareness: Listen carefully to s-t-r-e-t-c-h out the sounds in each word.
Phonics: Today we are taking an assessment on the CH digraph. Label your paper 1-6 and write your name at the top. Here we go! (listen to the linked audio file for the assessment).
Estimate: 10 minutes
You can choose a story online or ask someone to read to you. Here are some websites with online stories:
See what others are up to! Click on our class Padlet and add a picture of you or comment on your friends' pictures!
Read-to-Self: Read books that are "just right" for you... not too hard and not too easy. You may use the books Mrs. Bradley sent home with you, other books at your house, or Kids A-Z (Raz Kids) books by logging in on the iPad or computer. Read for at least 15 minutes.
Estimate: At least 15 minutes
Sight Words: Practice your sight words by choosing an activity off of this sight word choice board! You can also practice using BOOM cards.
Estimate: 5 minutes
Estimate: 20 minutes
Revising is all about going back and making your work even better. Get out your How to Plant a Seed draft from yesterday. Follow along with this checklist to revise and edit your writing. You don't need to re-write on a new piece of paper today. Just erase/fix or take notes on the same paper. We will make a nice, clean "published" version of your book tomorrow!
Did you use finger spaces?
Did you use a capital letter at the beginning of every sentence?
Did you use the transition words: first, next, then, last?
Did you use lowercase letters throughout your writing?
Did you use your best Summit handwriting by taking your time?
Did you sound out every word you wanted to write?
Can other people read what you wrote?
Did you use end punctuation? (period, exclamation mark, question mark)
If you have extra time, start planning what you might include as illustrations in your published book. I can't wait to read what you've written!!
Estimate: 10 minutes
Watch and read-along to the linked book, Seed to Plant. Listen for things you know, and learn new things along the way!
When you're done, use this printable (or make your own) to order the stages of the plant life cycle.
We are going to take a look at an author named Doreen Cronin over the next several weeks. I love reading her books because they fit into what we're learning about life cycles so well! Many of her books are written with a farm setting. The setting is where a story takes place. Follow along with this story called Click, Clack, Moo, Cows that Type. When you're finished reading, pretend you are an animal on Farmer Brown's farm. What would you ask for? Write a letter to Farmer Brown from the animal's point of view!
Estimate: 5 minutes
Lay down flat on the bed or the floor. Play this song loud enough that you can easily hear the notes. Close your eyes and focus on taking really slow, deep breaths while you listen. Try to stay still (except for your deep breaths) for the entire song. It is 3 minutes long. Can you do it? How do you feel afterward? Can you keep that calm energy with you throughout the day?
Add to your weather chart each day.
Musica Miercoles!
For Leer Lunes, you read La Oruga Muy Hambrienta. It mentioned the days of the week. Do you remember what they are? Here’s a video in case you need to refresh your memory! Get some writing practice in by tracing each day of the week! (Just a reminder that the Spanish calendar starts its week with lunes, not domingo like ours).
Pregunta del Día: What day is it today? (Hoy es Miércoles).
No music today. See you Thursday!
