Good morning, Kindergarten!
Today is Wednesday. What did you like most yesterday about learning from home? I can't wait to see you again! Do you remember the differences between living and nonliving things? Don't forget to get a few animal charade ideas ready for our class meeting at 1 p.m. today. Can you believe it...today makes 123 days of Kindergarten!
Love,
Mrs. Bradley
Watch and listen as Mrs. Bradley talks a little more about subtraction. Now, log into IXL on the computer or iPad and work on "Section K - Subtraction up to 5" for at least 10 minutes.
NOTE TO PARENTS: I know that students will be at different levels of mastery in content areas. I am still contemplating the best way to differentiate instruction. For now, if you see something that says "Challenge" please interpret this as a slightly higher level activity for students who are ready for it. Challenge activities are not "required" and are to be used at your discretion.
Looking for a challenge? Try Superhero Subtraction.
ABC Warm-Up: Click on the flashcard deck to the left. Say the sound for each letter or letter combination. Try and do it quickly, but correctly!
Phonemic Awareness & Phonics: Click the audio file to listen to Mrs. Bradley for today's activities.
Read and illustrate the words below. Upload a picture of your finished product to our class Padlet!
Watch the video about Friendship Soup, then answer the questions below.
What are three friendship ingredients that you can recall from the video?
Can you name the ingredient that made the soup “sticky”?
Give a scenario where honesty can lead to an argument?
How is your “soup” different from friend to friend?
Was there an important ingredient left out? Why would that ingredient be important?
Let's make a class recipe for Friendship Soup! Click on this link to type and add your idea to our class recipe.
Time to listen to a story! Before listening, look at the cover of the book. Make a prediction about what will happen in the story. After reading, retell the story in your own words.
You can choose a story online or ask someone to read to you. Here are some websites with online stories:
See what others are up to! Click on our class Padlet and add a picture of you in your backyard!
It's easy to add a post, just click the plus sign, then hit the upload arrow to add your picture or video!
Okay, writers, yesterday you picked things that you are experts at! I saw some great topics ranging from how to jazz dance, make scrambled eggs, swim, read, and more!! It will be so exciting to learn how to do all of those things after I read your finished stories.
Yesterday you wrote the title of your story. Mine is How to Brush Your Teeth. Today you’re going to use your words to teach people how to do that thing. I’m going to show you how to do this by writing a piece about how to brush your teeth. Watch the video to see how I write my ideas down. This is our first draft, so it's okay if it's not perfect.
Okay, now I want you to close your eyes and imagine that you're doing whatever it is you decided your book would be about. If you didn't submit your topic yesterday, please fill out this form. After you've had a minute to think, turn to an adult and describe the steps you will write. Use your fingers to indicate step 1, 2, and 3. If you need to add a few more steps, you can. After you're shared your steps out loud, you may begin writing!
Don't forget to add a picture and words for each step. Use your best Summit handwriting, finger spaces, lowercase letters, and end punctuation.
Read books that are "just right" for you... not too hard and not too easy. You may use the books Mrs. Bradley sent home with you, other books at your house, or Kids A-Z (Raz Kids) books by logging in on the iPad or computer. Read for at least 15 minutes.
Water Draw
Use a paintbrush, a piece of paper, and a cup of water to write your sight words.
Roll It
Use a piece of paper, die, and something to write with. Roll the die and write your sight word that many times. Repeat for each word on your list.
Flashlight Word Hunt
Write your sight words on flash cards or pieces of paper and tape them around the room. Turn off the lights and use a flashlight to find and read your words!
Play Doh
Form the words using play-doh. Trace your finger over each letter as you read the word.
Ask your adult for a plate and fill it with something from the spice cabinet (salt, sugar, flour, etc). Using your finger, practice forming your letters (uppercase and lowercase) using your best Summit handwriting!
Click through the pictures to the left. What do you see?
Now, I want you to watch a video with Annie and Moby on BrainPop Jr about the parts of a plant. They have made BrainPop free for students to use at home right now, but you have to sign in. Here is the information.

Draw (or Paint) a picture of 3 rabbits, including their long ears, whiskers, and cottontail. Remember to draw patterns for their fur.
*SCIENCE Integration: Include their habitat in your drawing (or painting). Make sure you show where they live and what they eat. Think about what you have learned in the video. You might want to include some baby bunnies too.
* MATH Integration: Parents can measure or the kids can step with their feet to measure how far they can hop or jump. Can you hop as far as a rabbit?
* Acting: Just for FUN you can add some music and movement: Do the Bunny Hop!
