Artist Statement
The main idea that guided this artwork was a drawing of my shoe. At first, I just started with a drawing of my shoe from the front angle. Then I drew that angle two more times except I drew it more and more zoomed in each time. From there, I chose which angle I liked best and got to be creative with it. I first noticed that the zoomed-in shoelace looked like a road and then decided that I would draw different landscapes around the road.
For this piece I was originally going to use just colored pens, but whilst drawing I realized that to color everything in that would take way too long. I ended up using colored pens, graphite, and just normal Crayola markers.
I explained a little bit of the process in the first paragraph, but after I saw the road within the shoelace I had to decide what I wanted to do in the rest of the areas. I thought it would be a cool idea to do different landscapes and I notices that the bottom left part looked like a ski hill. I then looked at each individual space and drew what it looked like to me. For instance, the long skinny part that divides the paper looked like a tree so I made it into a tree.
