Artist Statement

The main idea that guided this artwork was creating a logo based on a certain noun and part of FHS. For the noun one, I was given the word apple. With this logo, I was trying to figure out how to make the letters that spelled out apple fit into the shape of an apple. I wanted to stay away from copying the already popular apple technology logo- so I was guided by trying to create something different from that. For the FHS logo, I was inspired by the earth club because I am the president of that club. I knew I wanted to have the logo involve earth (because it's an earth club) but I also wanted to show that it was a school earth club. To get inspiration for both of these logos I looked up a lot of silhouettes to inspire my use of positive and negative space.

To create these logos I first started by using sharpie on drawing paper. Once I had done this I uploaded the sketches into photoshop to digitally enhance them. In photoshop I played around with the paint bucket, paint brush, and ellipse tool along with some other tools to create these logos. I also used the levels editor to add more contrast to both logos. I wanted to keep these logos simple and authentic- so I decided against using the premade texts and I stuck with my original handwriting for the letters. I did this because I like the way the logos look with more messy childish handwriting.

The process of creating these logos started with many pencil sketches in my notebook. I started off writing out the letters of apple and FHS earth club in many different fonts and stretching the words to fit different shapes. I revised both sketches a lot of time and did some research on other popular brand logos for inspiration. Once I created the final sketches for both logos I used photoshop to revise both of them. In photoshop I revised the letters and the shapes of the apple and the earth in both logos. I used photoshop to adjust the contrast, size, and thickness.
