"Picking flowers"

11x14

Colored pencil and pastels on pastel paper

The main idea that guided my artwork was being inspired by famous artists and art movements. I have always been really draw to surrealism art in the way that it makes you question reality so I decided to do something with surrealism. I was also inspired by Henri Matisse because of his use of bright colors especially when it comes to his backgrounds.

This work was made with graphite, a tiny bit of colored pencil, and pastels on pastel paper.

The process I went through to create this work started off with coming up with an idea. I was stumped at first when trying to come up with an Idea when I came across an Edward Hopper painting. I wouldn't say my artwork was inspired by his work but I liked the idea of a man in a suit which is seen in a lot of his paintings and went from there. I wanted to show the perspective of the flower when humans pick them all the time so I switched the flower and the human head to symbolize that. From there I was inspired by Matisse's colorful backgrounds and played with red and back to create something similar.
