Artist Statement

The main idea that guided this artwork was to create a linoleum block and use it to make prints. I had to make an original design and play with space. This meant paying close attention to the positive and the negative space. This work was guided by scratchboard and sgraffito and carving out the white space.

This work was made with Linoleum block and ink and then paper to press the prints on too. I also used a map for my unique surface and markers for my extended print.

The process for making this started with choosing my image and playing with the contrast and saturation to make it black and white. From there I printed the image and drew which areas were white and black and then transferred them onto the block. After the image was transferred onto my linoleum block I carved out the white spaces and began printing. From there it was just trial and error of seeing which prints worked and which didn't and what else needed to be touched up in order to get a perfect print.
