Face?

Watercolor and Sharpie

9"x12"

Artist Statement

The main idea that guided my artwork was the three paint blotches on my paper. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw these blotches was some sort of distorted eyeball. After I got that picture in my mind I just went with it and made it into an entire distorted face. What I'm trying to saw with my artwork is, what does the distorded-ness of the face say about the emotion that it's feeling?

The materials I used for this piece were pencils for the original sketch. Sharpie to trace over the pencil, and (as you can probably tell) a lot of watercolors.

The process for this piece started with my vision of a distorted eyeball. From there, I immediately pictured the entire distorted face in my head but decided at first not to go with it because I thought just drawing a face wouldn't be creative enough. After some thought, I decided to go with my gut and do the face because creativity has no standards. Next, I scrolled through Pinterest art and got some inspiration for this kind of artwork and drew it completely with no revisions.
