The Rock

The main idea that guided this artwork was playing with positive and negative space. I took a picture that my friend took of me on a rock this summer and messed with the contrast to make it all black and white. I picked this photo because it had a lot of different color and lights and darks to mess around with.

This work was made with clay and scratchboard.

This work was made by first doing a design on scratchboard to map out which parts I want to scratch away. I then moved to the clay and traced the design onto the clay. After that I glazed the clay and then began scratching away the white. Finally they were put in the kiln again.
