Graphite on drawing paper
Artist Statement
The main idea that guided this work was thinking back to all of the projects I had completed in Foundations of Art this year. I thought about which which was my favorite to create, which process I enjoyed the most, and which product I enjoyed the most. After thinking back, I decided I would do what I did for my realistic self portrait and use the gridding method to draw my image as accurately I could.
My drawing was made with graphite on drawing paper.
The process for making this drawing started with choosing an image. I decided to a photo I took of my sister and dog because it had a lot of different highlights, shadows, and textures to play around with. After I chose and printed my reference photo I split my drawing paper and the photo into proportional square inch sections (the gridding method). After everything was all set up, I went square by square making sure I copied every detail that I could see. I used a lighter pencil to drawing everything in and then I would go over with a darker pencil to show shadows or erase bits to show highlights. I revised certain squares many times and erased the grid as I progressed.
