Artist statement

The main idea behind this artwork was to take three circles and turn them into anything. With this work, I was trying to figure out what I could turn three circles into. If you look closely, you can see the original circles are placed in the two egg yolks and the plate. I think eggs were the first thing that came to my mind because I've been eating a lot of them recently and I wanted to incorporate something I enjoy into this work. I was inspired by breakfast served at diners, and the way it was always laid out so perfectly, and I wanted the breakfast in my drawing to appear that way as well. With this work, I was trying to figure out how to make circles into a perfect diner breakfast.

This artwork was made with acrylic paint on drawing paper. I chose acrylic paint because once I had figured out I wanted to draw eggs and bacon, I decided I was going to try and make it realistic. I considered using oil pastels again, but I decided that paints would be more accurate in adding small details. I chose acrylics over watercolor because I didn't want anything to look drippy or smudgy, unlike my Blind Contour. I chose the drawing paper because I wasn't sure what paper was best for acrylic paints so I just grabbed a random piece of paper.

To start this piece, I began by sketching out three random circles. Two of those circles were small and one was large and I'm not sure why but the first thing that came into my mind was eggs. Maybe I was hungry, but I decided to go with that. I looked up an image of eggs for a reference image and then sketched out a classic diner breakfast on a piece of paper. After this, I mixed many different shaded of yellows and greys to paint the eggs accurately. After I had gone over every detail I added a pink background to contrast with the rest of the image. I never had to restart this image, but I spend several taxing hours trying to show the details of the eggs and the bacon.
