Pure Contour Hand Drawing

Pure Contour Hand Drawing 9x12

For this project I was asked to create a realistic drawing of my hand using lines and without shading. To create my pure contour hand drawing I used a pencil and my hand. I looked at my hand and drew the outline of it from observation along with the rubber band. Then I added the more detailed lines and thickened some or darkened them where there would be shading on the hand such as between the fingers.

I used line to create my hand drawing and to create contrast by using different thickness in a line. I used space by filling most of the page with my drawing and created texture by drawing the creases that are on my hand. I emphasized the rubber band by using darker lines to draw it.

My drawing doesn't tell a story. I am proudest of the accuracy I had when placing the creases of my hand. I struggled to make the fingers look realistic without using shading, but then I figured out where to thicken the line in place of shading to make them look more realistic. I also struggled with the positioning of my fingers but after repositioning my hand a few times I found a position that I could draw.
