For this gridded self portrait we were asked to draw a portrait of ourselves using a black and white photo of ourselves. We gridded our photo and our drawing paper. Our drawings were made using different values and going square by square to make the drawing more accurate and detailed.
I used value to create contrast between different parts of my face such as my eyes and to add depth. I also used space to create emphasis around my hair. I created balance by keeping the range of values lower.
I am proudest of the shading of my eyes and nose. I struggled with shading my hair and finding the right values since my hair is wild and very dark. I eventually broke my hair into larger sections which made it easier to find the values.
