Semester 1 Reflection
In this class, I have been most successful with coming up with ideas for the more creative projects such as the sustained investigations. I was able to express my ideas in a way that went along with learning how to use new materials. When it came to projects I enjoyed, I was able to get the pieces done in a way that fulfilled my vision. However, there were a few areas in which I struggled. I often struggled with getting work in on time as the pace of the class was faster than I am able to work on art while enjoying it. Art became more of a chore which led to less inspiration and less timeliness especially when it came to pieces for competitions. I also struggled with trying to overachieve in some areas like working with new materials which would just lead to less productive work.
My artistic goals moving forward are to not bite off more than I can chew and to pace myself better so that I will not come to resent art and see it simply as work. I need to learn to keep a balance between experimenting with new things and staying in my comfort zone. This would definitely help me complete work in a more timely manner and would also benefit me in being able to measure my growth as an artist as there would be an underlying art style that could guide my work.
