Feathered fire 12x18
Value scale 9x12
To create the creative color design we were asked to create a piece that used all of the 12 colors (primary, secondary, tertiary). We were also supposed to create three tints and three shades for each of the 12 colors. First I created a rough sketch of my bouquet design and then I started planning which flowers and feathers would contain which colors. I was planning to create more feathers but I ended up using most of the warmer colors in the background. I tried to create a blurred, textured look for my background with small swatches of cool colors for contrast.
In this piece, I used color throughout to create balance. In the background, I tried to use the colors in a balanced way so that there weren't too many swatches of one color in a certain area. I also created some texture with the background and I used space when creating the bouquet and its placement and size.
I am proudest of the feathers since they look nicely textured and delicate. I struggled with creating the background and keeping a balance between the distribution of different colors. Eventually, I decided to take a step back once in a while and see how it looked as a whole and where it was unbalanced.
