We started this project the week after Halloween so that we would have the candy for doing the still life. In the last unit, we learned about perspective for things like squares and rectangles but in this unit, we learned how to use perspective to make realistic 3d spheres. In the colored spheres picture, we made 4. Each was with a different material. Which I will explain more about in paragraph 2. The point is that it helped us to move forward to the next assignment, a candy still life. I chose my favorites of the leftover Halloween candy and started to work on the still life with the past skills we learned in past units. With the colored candy one, I was able to create something fun and colorful yet still use the model to create something as realistic as possible.

For the colored spheres projects, we used many different materials. Each sphere was tested using different materials! I started sketching circles for the spheres with a 2H pencil because I didn’t want it to be too dark. Then I started shading with the materials to make it look as much like a sphere as possible. The pink sphere was just colored pencil, I used 2 shades of pink and went in shading to create a sphere looking thing. The Blue one was using a marker. I once again used 2 shades of blues and created a sphere. The Orange and redone were using watercolor. I thought that this one was going to be easier because I could blend it out with water but it ended up being pretty hard because I had to control the bleeding of the colors. The last sphere which was yellow was mad with a mixture of media. I used both colored pencils and markers to create the look of the sphere. This one was also hard because it was really hard to blend. For the still life candy art I just used colored pencils. I started with a 2h pencil and then moved on to colored pencils. The final part was just to top it off with a layer of sharpie.

In this piece of artwork the key was layering. You can always go darker but you can't go lighter so I started with a light coat and went on darker and darker. I also had to be aware of where the light would be hitting the sphere if it were real to make sure that the sphere looked realistic. For the candy still life it was important that I made sure that i was getting the fonts and wrappers right. It was hard to make it all realistic with making sure all the colors matched and everything else you need in a drawing to look correct in one time. If I were to do this again I would probably work on perfecting my tootsie roll. I have been able to figure out how to do more square things such as kit kats and laughy taffy but trying to do something round and still make it realistic has always been hard for me.
