Artist statement:
For this project we were entering our art pieces into an art competition called donate life. The idea is to create a poster to compel people to sign up for organ and tissue donation on your license to save other people. We all had to create a unique and creative slogan as well. I decided to make mine, "be the light in someone else's darkness" and made a poster so that all the windows in the city were dark except one which was lit up. Organ and tissue donation can save so many lives and I wanted my poster to show a happiness that the ideology of organ and tissue design does not always have to be so sad or depressing.
For this project I used markers of variations of different colors to create almost an ombre effect from the front to the back of the picture to show depth in the city poster. I also used a white gel pen to add words and stars to the poster. The white definitely stood out on the black sky and the gel pen was one of my favorite materials to use because of it's smoothness and fine point. I did this on a thick piece of watercolor paper even though I wasn't using watercolors because the paper would be thick enough to withstand a good amount of markers.
I really liked this project and my final product. My processes were layering and focusing on fundamentals of art such as depth, space, and shape. I think that if I were to do this project again I would try my other idea from the idea generation sketches page but I was really proud of this project. I think it is eye catching and would prove to be a nice poster if chosen.
