artist statement:

For this project we were asked to create two cohesive jars with lids to present our pinch pot making skills. Keeping with my theme of the ocean I decided to make two fishy pinch pots. At least one of the jars had to have feet. I wanted my fish to be cohesive with color and small details such as eyes and lips but I wanted the rest of the fish to be different. So one fish is more ovular and squatty and the other pot I wanted to be more spherical and have a taller fin on the top.

I started both of these pots by creating two spheres by creating two halfs and scoring and slipping them together. Then I cut off the lid at an angle with my exacto knife. This way I could make sure the lid didn't fall through. I then created all the detail parts(fins, eyes, lips, feet etc.) and made sure to slip and score to attatch them. I then bisque fired it with no underglaze and then glazed them using PC-27, PC-49, HF-167. I made sure when creating the details such as fins to make the fins different yet cohesive. So one was more round and squattier whereas the other one I created I made sure to make it more round.

In the end, I was really proud of this project. It definitely has many imperfections and my biggest pet peeve of having all my fingerprint indents all over it. Overall, I was proud of the project because it turned out way better than I had imagined it would considering it was my first hand molded ceramics project. Also I was proud that I ended up being able to attach it all correctly so that it all stayed together and stayed together strong.
