Artist statement:
I wanted to make a magical and mystical wonderland. Since I’m fully remote I was not able to get a piece over paper with the ink blotch so instead I had to get creative. Unfortunately because the cranberry juice much have such a high water content the juice didn’t stain read like I thought it would when I dropped it. Never the less I was still able to make the drips into flower and plant stems. My sister really enjoys fairy gardens and whimsical type things so I was able to have fun with creating something that reminds me of her. Adding rainbows, flowers, and giant trees were fun because as I’ve gotten older I haven’t used my imagination as much as I would have if I were her age.
I first just used cranberry juice to drip onto the paper while I lift the paper at a slight angle. Then once it was all dry I was able to go in with my pencil to add all kinds of details to the mystical and magical garden. I used a 2H pencil because I wanted to be able to erase easily.
I mostly just sketched it out so that you could see the beautiful oops part of the drawing. I was nervous that if I added more color that it would take away from the beautiful oops part. I wanted to see a clear contrast from the cranberry juice and the actual drawing. My project evolved by adding more details to fill up empty/blank space it was fun to experiment with new shapes and lines to create a magical garden or land. My next step would be to use things like rulers or drawing compasses to clear up what issues are already there.
