Materials: colored pencils

Dimensions: 9" x 12"

Artist Statement:

The prompt that I chose for this project was "a sheep wearing pajamas". You might notice that I titled this artwork, "Sheep like a lamb tonight". This is because during this class I had the song "Sleep like a baby tonight" by U2 stuck in my head. When I first saw the prompt I immediately came up with the pun part. This inspired the sheep. I chose the sheep to be blue because I feel like the reflection of the nighttime sky and the moon make white things blue sometimes. Instead of putting the sheep into normal pajamas, I put her into a nightgown because it reminded me of the stereotypical old farmer woman in children's books. Especially since the bell ringer, that day was about the Mercy pig books.

The materials I used for this piece of artwork were colored pencils. I thought that it would be an easy way to get the colors I wanted while making sure that all of them blended nicely. I also liked that you could erase them. Whereas markers are so permanent that I didn't want to mess up. At the beginning of sketching out this drawing, I used a 2h pencil because it was light and flexible.

I had to practice the ears of this drawing. I wanted to make sure they looked cartoony and fun while also being realistic to an actual sheep. I researched lots of images of sheep because they have a very unique face and look to their fur. I tried to add some curly cues as my last step within the fur of the sheeps' head but it is kind of hard to see on the drawing itself.
