Artist statement:

For this project, we were supposed to incorporate circles into our design project. We started by brainstorming a list of all the things we could think of that were circular. I ended up deciding to go with citrus fruits because I feel like I could get creative and have fun with the detailing on the leaves and rines and make sure that the circular shape is well represented. It is hard to tell in the picture but I used dots in the rines and stripes in the leaves for more details.

I decided to use linoleum for my material because of how much I loved using it last year. It took me over 6 hours to carve out as big of a piece of linoleum that I chose but it ended up being totally worth it when looking at the final products in person. I might try to use my print on different materials in the future. The paper was just a thin drawing paper but since the ink doesn't dry thick it was okay. I also used a thin-point black pen for the black details because I thought it would make the project more interesting.

If I were to do this project again I would probably try graphic design for my project. I really liked the linoleum but it took up almost my entire weekend. I think that graphic design is extremely fun and I would love to be able to experiment with it in the future. There was not much of a process in this piece of work besides a time process. You had to be really patient with the carving to make sure you don't mess anything up.
