Artist statement:
For this project, I decided to choose the grid box where you can see mushrooms. This one focused on proportion and texture. I wanted each of the mushrooms to be different sizes and different shapes to show the proportion and I decided to make all of the mushrooms three-dimensional so that you could see the texture. I decided to make this a digital project because I could have all sorts of colors and manipulate lines and patterns to make the mushrooms look more fun.
For this project, I used graphite and paper for the sketch. Next, I took that picture and put it into photoshop, and used the draw tool to outline details and the paint bucket tool to drop the colors I wanted into the picture. I also used the dropper tool to match colors from different parts of the project to make sure they were always matching. For the Matrix of design project, I used pens, markers, and graphite to create my project. I liked using the markers for the color parts of the projects because I don't use markers that often.
This project definitely had a long process. First, I created the matrix grid, next I chose the square that I thought I could recreate the best. Like I said, this was the mushroom project. I first used graphite to sketch out the mushrooms that I liked the most and then created a little mushroom forest. Then, the graphite drawing was put into photoshop so that I could create a print of all of them. I thought that it ended up looking really cool! If I were to do this project again, I would still work with the mushrooms but add forest in the background to play with space and perspective.
