Reflection:
Out of all the projects we did this year, I think that the 5 pot summary was my favorite. I felt most proud about this one because I really used my imagination to make my vision come true. I also am most proud of this one because It has the most detail out of all the ones I've done and the most imperfections. I like the imperfections because I think it makes it look unique. The Little holes on the top of the starfish and the ridges between the scallop shapes. I also like this one because you can actually tell what it is without me having to tell you. I learned how the "pinch" technique doesn't just mean "pinch" pot it can be anything. I used the pinch technique to make all the little legs of the starfish which resembles nothing like a bowl. I also learned that I have more patience than I thought. This project took a few weeks and a whole lot of patience to make sure it all looked as neat as possible.
This class has made me have much more respect for the ceramics genre of art in general. Going into this class I thought I was going to be absolutely horrible because I hadn't done any true ceramics work before. So not only did it make me understand that I can learn how to do the art, it made me realize that with any sort of idea, I can learn a way to make it happen. It also made me feel not so horrible about my artistic abilities because in the past I have been extraordinarily bad and this class gave me a little bit more confidence that with some more practice I could create something I was truly proud of. It also made me realize how creative other artists truly are. I often find that the art I make is inspired by others, so I have a lot of respect for people who create theirs completely on their own.
One of my favorite things about this class was that it was quality over production. I have found that some art classes and other art teachers teach in a way that focuses more on producing many different pieces of art, rather than letting us use our full creative potential. The recommendations I have for this class are about just trying to keep the demos a little bit shorter because I found that I had a little time on demo days to actually work. I think that the demo should just be to give us the bare minimum so that we can expirament in our own ways with the clay. That way, if we need specific help we can ask you personally during the class. Either way though, this was one of my favorite classes this semester.
