Once again, I went to RGS on Sunday for more filming of the behind the scenes. This is a good stable job to do as I can dip in when it fits in with my schedule and will mean I walk out with a very substantial final project that I will look good on my CV and Show reels. This week was their first full cast rehearsal so I got various shots of the ‘meet everyone’ games and workshops. I spent Monday going through this footage as well as footage for the Scriveniers application. They asked me to create a short video as a test for them to see what I’m made of. I researched more into their ethos and the website to capture their style along with my own. I ended up taking my dad to the woods to capture some simple but stark autumnal shots, including him in a red jacket taking photos. I made him the subject of the promo and, with editing skills in premiere, I was able to make three videos four days before they wanted it for. Hopefully this presented my willingness and ethos to them as a potential candidate.
On Tuesday, Fahmida talked to us about interview techniques. I’ve covered this topic a lot over the years so it acted as a refresher. My route to tackling those sort of questions are quite different but it was interesting to see different people’s focuses and processes are. In tutorial, we looked at mental health. I’ve recently started watching the lawyer drama series ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ and finding that very interesting. The show is paced and structured very cleverly with flash-forwards that reveal future events of the main cast, drawing you in to future episodes to understand how they got there. During this week, I also watched, Shawshank Redemption, Mean Girls, Living and Red White and Royal Blue.
Wednesday was just more time for me to focus on the assignment by carrying out further research for my research paper. A lot of the apprenticeships I’ve looking at weren’t quite open yet. The BBC apprenticeships open on Thursday so I was ready to apply as soon as the opportunity presented itself. I finished my research on universities and began to come to my conclusions about them. I’ve known for a while that I don’t want to go to university for various reasons that I’ll eventually do in my evaluation. On Thursday, the BBC opened up and I looked through the application process for Level 4 Production Coordinator. At the end of the application, you have to submit a 2000 character limited write up saying why this apprenticeship is for you. BBC is a very inclusive environment and will be a great support for my visual disabilities.
On Friday, I spent a lot of time working on my YouTube video. This week, I made a video essay on the film Metropolis, a very influential film that I believe anyone interested in film should be aware of. I filmed the video on Thursday so spent a lot of the day editing it with images and backing music. Between working on my edit, Attila gave us the opportunity to work with the actors to film their Christmas Show. Previously, the other class collected wide shots so it was our job to get close ups to turn a scene into a TV Drama. There were a lot of us crew and not many jobs to be getting on with. I managed to get my video uploaded on time and, to my surprise, it reached about 200 views over the first 24 hours. For my start up stage, I was pretty happy with this. As we’ve moved on through this assignment, I feel we’ve not been doing as much in class learning with lectures and discussions but I do appreciate the opportunities in terms of practical skills, which at the end of the day is what this course is all about.
