After spending Monday watching the show Ghosts on BBC, scripting future YouTube videos and editing footage gathered from filming at RGS Shrek on Sunday, Tuesday began with a class discussion about content we’d been watching recently. Fahmida tried to get us thinking and analyzing why we watch, like or dislike certain kinds of content and got starts of debates going. However, I felt that the discussions were getting cut off and moved on to other media too quickly to retain a worthwhile discussion. There were a few times when I didn’t feel mine and others comments felt valued as the discussion weren’t allowed room to breathe. We discussed Loki, Gen V, Prey and Killer of the Flower Moon among others. In the evening, Jacob, Josh and I came back to college to help with open evening, talking to parents and potential students about the course with Nick and Chris as teacher representation. Between groups, I had a great chance to talk to Nick about the BBC Apprenticeship in Production Co-Ordination that I want to apply for when it opens next week. These apprenticeships are extremely competitive so my chance of getting in is slim but I want to at least test myself and show what I’m made of. Nick still works within the BBC and can provide me with contacts/ preparation to enter the applications which is brilliant.
On Wednesday, we spent our time with Attila watching the film ‘the Book Sellers’ starring Michael Cain and Audrey Plaza. The point of watching was to analyze the relationship between the lead two characters and how they develop after spending prolonged time together. We had a class discussion about the film before spending the rest of the day getting on with our own studies and efforts towards the assignment. I found the film quite interesting and may develop a film review on it. Additionally sent a part time job offer from Kit in the Workplace which I applied for immediately with my CV and website portfolio. This opportunity would be ideal as its working for a luxury pen brand in creating videos for their social media. The opportunity means I would be able to work from home and create content. I could even work with them to form a sort of sponsorship in promoting their brand on my YouTube channel if it builds up. In the evening, I needed to get back into watching more content as that is the best way to learn as a film student. To stay up to date on recent releases, I watched most of Gen V, a spin off to The Boys on Amazon Prime, finishing the series. It had a slightly underwhelming and confusing end but I guess it’s going to feed into the main show.
Thursday was another day of filming, both for my personal YouTube and RGS as they had their first rehearsal now the show has been cast. This time, my video was about the schedule and plan for the release of content on my channel. The plan is to release content I’ve already made but had private during the week then releasing a weekly video essay, short film or something else on a Friday night. On Thursday, I also decided to watch a show contrasting to Gen V and watched the first season of Time on BBC I player. This is an intense prison drama and was uncomfortable but educating and overall I’m glad I watched it. I began season 2, set in a women’s prison, and am so far interested into how the systems are run differently.
As well as continuing work on my presentation about future work/ studies, I spent Friday organizing my work, scheduling YouTube videos for release over the next few weeks as well as editing my video from Thursday. This also involved a lot of editing and I’m now set and comfortable with content releasing on its own during the week. Therefore, I will have more time to focus on pinning down my assignment stages, especially after the Apprenticeship applications open so I can tailor my work for that specific purpose next week.
