Our FMP officially opened on Wednesday of this week so it was time to get started with a pitch and general plan for the final leg of this course. For this project, My reflective Journal is going to take a different format, which will be outlined in my pitch. As it worked really well last year, I intend on making a running weekly video log of my work so I can verbalise my studies. For last year’s reflective journal became step by step with the process of the project but this time I will make sure my updates are weekly. As well as this, I will be recording a behind the scenes mini-documentary with my production plans, talking to my cast and crew for feedback and proving my practical skills.
This week, preparations for Shrek the Musical at RGS for my work experience has stepped up. I’m at rehearsals filming and helping at least twice a week with the show two weeks away. I release promos for each of the musical numbers on my instagram and youtube to increase ticket sales. On the show week, Korben and Ben will help me film two nights to make a DvD for Vimeo to release alongside my documentary series. Meanwhile, I will be backstage helping out with a Go Pro to capture extra footage. So far, I’m finding it difficult to film content while also not being in the way during rehearsals.
Additionally, I’ve been pushing my YouTube more as my personal project. I am planning to use the money I receive from Shrek DvDs to grow my brand as Gonk and hopefully start doing merchandise. I will keep doing weekly reviews, maybe taking on different formats to see what gets me more views, including a rundown of the Oppenheimer ahead of the Oscars that I completed on Thursday. To monetise officially on YouTube, I must hit 500 subscribers. At the moment, I need to take that step by step and aim for 200 by the end of March.
During the week and continuing from last week, Korben, Jacob and I have been editing the social media promos for Marlow. We had a good system going with rough edits and checks before Korben polishing them off. These are now all completed and will hopefully assist the studio in its progression.
Finally, on Friday, we had a brillant workshop with D-Lux Rentals to learn about lighting design from an industry specialist. It is always validating to hear information, such as starting as a runner and learning on the job is the best way in, from a specialist that aligns with what I’ve found online. D-Lux is an excellent contact to have and I may reach out about my FMP with a lighting plan to get some advice as I got talking to Dee about the sort of stuff he does. I asked a few questions about lighting a night one take and he gave some good affordable advice.
