This was a shorter week due to half term so we only had two days in college. We had just completed the assignment so this week was more or less an introduction into our studies for the next half term. Fahmida and Attila both talked to us on Tuesday about the new module to familiarise ourselves with it, giving us space to work over half term break in preparation. This module, Unit 11, is focused on applications for higher education and jobs, getting all the appropriate paperwork together to make life easier down the line. We must produce a personal statement along with research blog into our chosen future paths, including a presentation to develop our public speaking skills. On the side of this, we must also fully complete our adapted films by editing them. In most cases, this will also involve filming them as we only collected test footage previously. I put together a casting call that I sent out to drama friends over two days of filming that I will carry out in November, giving me enough time to edit. In the afternoon, we had careers as usual.
Wednesday once again allowed us to work with the actors. In my case, I sent the day, in the background, processing footage from a documentary I am working on outside of the college which I had completed a first day of filming on. This documentary is in partnership with RGS High Wycombe to film behind the scenes of their musical this year, the musical in question being Shrek. We had the first day of auditions on Sunday 15th and I was able to use my own equipment for it, now I’m in possession of a Sony A7 M3. I gathered a variety of shots for B roll along with multi-camera filming each individual audition which the performers can use in future as self-tapes. I’ve used this week to edit audition clips and prepare them for the show’s director to use as well as producing a behind the scenes promo clip for socials. I dipped in and out of working with the actors so I could process my Shrek footage. We used one of my personal Andeor RGB lights in the studio with minimal other lighting to turn a Romeo and Juliette scene more sinister for investigation, using a moon cut out and lanterns as well. Due to this being a shorter week of studies, I spent more time working on my personal documentary rather than college assignments. Over half term, I may begin work on my personal statement. This isn’t necessary for the work I wish to progress into as personal statements are for universities but it’s good practice and is concise. The apprenticeships I’m looking into for next year currently aren’t open and have little information regarding what must be submitted. As soon as they open, applying will be my first priority.
