In order to begin my FMP, I needed to submit a pitch of what I hope to achieve. This was approved by my tutors and has evolved over time.
RATIONALE (100 WORDS)
These two years of the course were a wild change in trajectory from my previous studies. I feel I have excelled in college life, dabbling in various internal filming projects with a cross course crew that I lead as well as ample work experience as a freelance videographer for schools and YouTube. Over this year, I realised my priorities lie in production management over technical camera work so that will be my focus. My ambitions with production documents are thorough. Production Management is my current goal long term so seems logical to explore in more depth here.
CONCEPT (200 WORDS)
My documentary will cover the true events of the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea 2023 as a voice for the young people. As an explorer, I attend this three week adventure last year although, as documented by the news, the camping experience didn't go to plan even after years of preparation. During my documentary, I will feature archive news footage, my own achieved footage taken at the event and several interviews with scouts globally to get various points of view. For inspiration, I will be applying Damien Chazelle's montage style, continuing my work from unit 12, the lessons I learnt from Year One Documentary, adverts during my Year One TV Show and knowledge of my Unit 11 future plans in Production management with location, crew and cast hire. In will also draw from John Pilger's documentary style as he is a filmmaker who inspires me. The theme of my documentary is togetherness and working through struggle in real life conditions. Along with that, I aim to explore the manipulation of event publication that the media and news channels internationally. I may stage a fictional camping scene to exercise short film formats I've studied as b-roll to interviews.
EVALUATION (50 WORDS)
As I did last year, I will video a weekly reflective log which will feature at the bottom of each page on my website as well as a behind the scenes short film that will sit alongside my documentary, featuring my practical skills. I will continue my week by week reflective journal as I have for this year as well and finish the project with a full written evaluation. I must make sure to get constant feedback from my tutors, family and classmates to make sure I'm heading in the right direction.

As I've been wanting to produce a documentary on this event ever since returning, I believe my FMP is the perfect opportunity. While I have full reign and complete creative control, I can tell the story of the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea through the fresh lens of the young people who went, without any intervention from news networks. This is still a relatively fresh topic with perspectives that haven't been seen in the public eye. In my opinion, until now, the event hasn't been well represented publically. With the backing of others who travelled to the site, I can tell the story of the young people from the point of view of the young people.
Preparing for this trip took the major part of my teenage years so it is quite close to my heart. I have grown up with scouting so having an opportunity to delve into that at a professional level will tie my portfolio together. I made life-long connections both leading up to and on the Jamboree and I wish to spread this message to future participants.

As stated above, I aim to create a documentary to represent the participants of the Jamboree with no leadership or management perspective for a streamlined result. I am pitching my film as a test documentary for screening audiences before turning this into a full length documentary after FMP. This is due to the fact I am aware there will be a lot of footage and interviews to process that are unnecessary to hit the brief. I want my submission to moderators to be concise, showing off what I've learned from the course and all the influences I research rather than a constant repetition of interviews. The production will clearly have different styles without that should seamlessly transition into each other, pulling together work from previous units, primarily Unit 12, Year One Documentary and my future plans.
On that note, I will be prioritizing my production logistics and documents as this is the field I wish to develop in industry for a career. The documentary will pay homage to John Pilger in memory due to his recent passing.
Target Audience
Target Audience
My target audience is split two ways. First, the documentary is for those aged 14 - 18 who were on the Jamboree so they have a film to represent them and remember their experience, encouraging them to reach out so I can make a part two telling further stories from the event and other countries involved.
As well as this, the documentary is for the younger 10 - 14 demographic who will be able to apply for the next Jamboree in Poland, telling them why they can't miss the experience. I feel a lot of the media presence last year was negative and will drive the future generations away but Jamborees after this point should grow and learn from mistakes as it is a staple of the movement. I will be sending out surveys to this demographic as research both before and after completing the project so the film is tailored to their experiences.
This documentary may also be accessible for parents within the scouting movement who wish to know more about the event from a wider ground level viewpoint in order to send light through the cloud of press.
The film is planned to be a proof of concept to publish on YouTube and gain public opinion. As well as this, I would be sent to broadcasting companies such as BBC with hopes of being optioned for a full feature.
This is a very ambitious project, especially considering i will have little time for the first month. In that month, I am working behind the scenes on a production of Shrek the Musical, creating a 10 part documentary series. I was toying with making this my FMP but I'd much rather use the time I have and build up my portfolio in different directions. I believe I will have enough time to complete this project and this will truly test my production management skillset.

Before handing in my pitch, I had considered a different course for my FMP months prior to opening. This would've been a short film about insomnia, set in the middle of the night as a 4:3 aspect one take, continuing to represent the style of Damien Chazelle as well as my own creative vision. The idea grew and went through many changes but I decided against it due to hitting the assessment criteria and my time management. For that shoot to work, I would've needed to film well in advance to secure my venue as well as fitting in with chosen crew. It wasn't going to be feasible and show off the best of my ability.
However, as I did take time to nurture it, I have decided to upload the initial first draft script and my story treatment. Both of these are unfinished.
