FMP: Pre-Production

This mood board was influenced by the colours, visual and technical research from the previous pages. There are certain items meant to associate with specific characters and feelings as well as locations that I have been thinking about and colour palettes I will later use with colour grading. 

Using my visual, writing. target audience and people watching research, I started to jot down ideas and find a streamlined version of this plot i've been wondering about for a while. Later, I will more heavily use my writing inspiration to turn this into a script.

To have a successful production, it was crucial to create a production plan that ties together the process I've carried out previously and what I aim to produce over the production weeks. A lot of sections have been scheduled in for more than one day to give me space in case anything goes array such as a cast member's timetable or weather issues. 

The storyboard was the next vital step from the treatment to the script to refine my plan and, although they're stickmen, it gives me and my cast an idea of what this will look like when we come to do it. The main thing to take into account here were the colours and costumes from my mood board and visual research along with the aspect ratios touched on in my technical research.

Now with my Story treatment, Storyboard and Writing inspiration, I got to work with my script. By this point I had already been considering my cast and locations. A lot of the script is establishing locations, and aspect ratios so I believe the final film will be between 5 and 10 minutes as planned (a general rule is a page a minute)

The equipment listed here mainly looks at the central location with the main two characters. In my research, I looked at technical aspects including the JVC cameras and audio for a successful shot. I am not going to worry about aspect ratios on the camera settings and while instead alter the footage in the edit.

The cast list went through a few iterations but I knew a lot of people who fit the archetypes I wanted. These people were also considered during the mood boards, storyboards and script along with the colour and music research for their hobbies and interests. 

I want to use a variety of songs and sounds to enforce the message of my film, using techniques such as foley along with using stock sounds and downloading songs. These decisions were all informed by my music research and survey.

The locations I had in mind are present in the script and early storyboards to enforce the characters. I did have contingencies in place which was good as I ended up having to use a couple of them.

This shot list was not completed due to the changes in location but I've listed it here to present an early version. The shot list brings together the script, storyboard and technical knowledge i've gained over the year along with my technical research.

Here is the final script that we used with the changes in location. Same as previous applies in terms of writing inspiration, storyboards, moodboards and general plan.

This is the completed updated Shot List that I referenced throughout my filming to keep on track, using the script and knowledge from the year in filmmaking.

This call sheet took into consideration the weather, due to it being an open public space, so the cast were flexible to do this. This call sheet allowed me to priorise which scenes to do when but creates a few continuity errors in terms of background people and conditions. This call sheet is derived from the shot list and cast/ crew sheets.

Although there weren't many risks, it is a document worth considering so I listed it here, bearing in mind the many locations I will be using. I had to consider weather among issues I've had in the past.

This sheet helped me and the cast visualise the pathing of each scene and went hand in hand with the shot list and script.
