On Friday night last week, immediately at the release of my Doctor Who YouTube video, I was working on the next by seeing the Disney film Wish in cinema. My intention was to make a review on it. I won’t go into my thoughts on the film as I’ll link the video. Those of us in important roles for the TV Careers event needed to go in for a time on Monday to do a rehearsal. However, Tim, the host, couldn’t make it so Chris and Nick just filled us in on what was going to happen. I learned about how the production was going to run and the jobs I will have to do. Mainly for me, it was learning who and where everyone was so I could run errands and check in on the different groups of production. Below is a page to my full assessment of the show.
Following the event, I spent time evaluating on Wednesday as well as evaluating me assignment research paper to complete that assignment for Friday. These two essays were insightful into my development and skills over the last half term as well as pin pointing what I must work on in the future. Nick gave good feedback on the show’s running and says there will be other opportunities soon. Sadly, Attila is currently in hospital so we have Fahmida instead. Fahmida told us some useful information she gathered from the companies on the event day while we were running the show. She passed on from the head of Marlow studios that if we want to go into work and are confident in that, we should. He said university is good if you still need time to develop before entering the workplace. I believe the workplace is where I will develop the most in my industry.
I was able to gather more inside the industry knowledge when I attended the Pinewood Futures Festival at the weekend just gone. This is a great networking event where companies in industry from all across the world have stalls and information about getting into film. I talked to many companies including Disney, Fremantle, Clear Angle, ScreenSkills, ILM, and more. I have applied for many entry level positions at these to see if anything comes back. I was intrigued by Clear Angle who work to capture location shots that can be visualised in VFX. This is a fascinating aspect of the industry I hadn’t even considered and would allow me to travel lots. In future, I may formulate a full evaluation of this event.
Another full day editing on Thursday, this time on my Wish Review. Long day filming and cutting. There was a lot of useless information I covered that would’ve made the video too long. Some feedback I got for my last video was that I needed a more analytical script which I agreed with and tried to work on. Having uploaded this in the evening, I spent Friday finalising my assignment by uploading everything to my website. I also completed work on my Adapted Screenplay scene to upload. I submitted the assignment on time and now have a weekend to film external projects. Kit from careers came round to check the work experience we are all doing. To conclude, this has been a productive week seeing as the assignment deadline was today. For the next assignment, I need to do more heavy lifting with research and context earlier in the process and use Fahmida to help that.
