Year 6 Isle of Wight (IOW) Residential Trip 2024

There are currently no announcements at this moment in time, please check back at a later date.

Monday

We arrived safely onto the Isle of Wight around midday. We loved the hovercraft ride and all the staff at Westbrook House are so kind and helpful. We settled into our rooms and were all very eager to explore Westbrook House grounds

The weather has been glorious meaning we have spent lots of time outside already playing football and having fun with the low ropes. There is so much space to play and enjoy ourselves - we've even seen red squirrels, pheasants and ducks in the grounds!.

After having seconds and thirds of dinner, we had a campfire with smores, songs and jokes!

We can't wait for tomorrows activities!

Tuesday

We woke up bright and early to a continental breakfast served by our lovely teachers. Taking a scenic stroll to the beach, we made some stop offs along the way to find the best shells Seaview could offer.

We set up camp on the not so sunny beach but we still had a great time playing in the sand and paddling our feet in the almost tropic waters.

Lunchtime consisted of the traditional meal of sandy sandwiches with an audience of seagulls.

It isn't a trip to the beach without a delicious Mr Whippy ice cream. After a good few hours at the beach, we took a stroll back to explore the rock pools. It was tempting to take the crabs back for dinner but we decided against it.

The sea air made us hungry for dinner so there were lots of clean plates around. We rounded off the evening with a splish and a splash in the pool and time spent in the games room which definitely tired us out for bed!

Wednesday

First stop on our tour today was to learn how glass is made and blown into sculptures. Following that we visited the gift shops before the long walk down to Alum Bay.

The weather had been varied and by the time we reached the beach, the rain had become persistent. Children and staff showed great resilience as we waited for the Rambling Rose to dock and load us on board.

Once onboard, the captain told us great information about The Needles and the local environment. Although the sea was choppy, we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and seeing the lighthouse.

Back at Westbrook house, we had our evening meal and prepared for the evening disco courtesy of MC Edmonds and DJ Barnham. The children danced and boogied the night away!

Thursday

It was a quiet start to the day with lots of children needing a gentle nudge to start the day.

We packed up our suitcase and cleared the devastation from our rooms and hauled our suitcases downstairs ready for departure.

Our remaining time at Westbrook house was spent on orienteering, archery and frisbee golf.

We have just had a picnic style lunch and our enjoying our final moments in the glorious sunshine.

See you soon! (Make sure the washing machines are empty and the baths are run!) :)
