Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

We are looking forward to welcoming your children into Year 6 in September and would like to draw your attention to the attached Handbook for KS1 and KS2 Parents.

As this is your final year at St Paul’s, you will be stretching yourself in all sorts of new and exciting ways. You will have some extra privileges, lots of interesting topics to learn about, as well as some excellent trips and events. In order to get the most out of this year, you will need to be fully prepared. So read on…

Equipment

Please make sure you have all of the following equipment when you come back in September. We will be checking the first week back. Please ensure it is all labelled as much as possible with your name as many people will have the same equipment.

Over the year equipment will run out. Please ask your parents to replace your things when they run out or get lost!

PE and Games

You will need to bring in your PE kit on a Monday and take it home on a Friday for it to be washed! Please make sure it is all labelled with your name. Our PE days will change throughout the year which means you will need to have it in school for every day, not just on our regular PE days.

Homework

In Year 6, we use Google Classroom to set all homework. Please make sure you check online every day as we post important messages and notices.

Below is a timetable of regular homework in Year 6. In addition to this, children should be reading daily for at least 15 minutes.

National Poetry Day 2023

Refuge

In Year 6 at St. Paul's CofE Primary School, something truly special happened during National Poetry Day in 2023. The students delved into the world of poetry by studying a thought-provoking poem titled "Refugees" by Brian Bilston. This poem touched their hearts and sparked their creative spirits.

The poem, "Refugees," shed light on the plight of those seeking refuge and the challenges they face. It inspired our Year 6 students to explore their own emotions and thoughts about this important issue. They embarked on a poetic journey of their own, crafting their unique versions of the poem.

With immense creativity and compassion, our Year 6 students gave voice to the experiences and emotions of refugees, using their words to raise awareness and evoke empathy. Their poems were like windows into the hearts and minds of those who seek safety and a better life.

National Poetry Day 2023 was not just about celebrating the beauty of language and self-expression; it was a week of learning, empathy, and solidarity. Through their poetry, Year 6 showed the world that even young hearts can be filled with understanding and a desire for positive change. They left an enduring mark on our school community, inspiring us all to be more compassionate global neighbours.

If you have any questions or comments, the first port of call is the class teacher.

We’re really excited about the year ahead and looking forward to teaching your children.
