The days of needing a driver’s license are almost over--or are they? Major companies like Google, Tesla, and General Motors are producing and experimenting with self-driving cars. Unfortunately, these vehicles are doing more harm than good at the moment. It doesn’t take much for these cars to suddenly make a mistake on the roads and cause harm or even death to the innocent drivers of the neighboring cars. Incidents like that have played out numerous times and have been tied to faulty computer systems. Technology is not perfect and never will be.
Eventually however, these cars will definitely be safe enough to drive on the road, and will likely surpass human operated vehicles in terms of popularity. There are safety guidelines that companies must follow in order to run road tests on their vehicles, and this will probably push along the development of safe vehicles much faster than originally thought. Self-driving cars have been in the back of people’s mind for many years, and although they are experiencing a slight hiccup now, nothing will stop them from becoming a common sight on our roads in the near future.
