DACA and Dreamers
Do They Deserve the American Dream?
Do They Deserve the American Dream?
Since the beginning of the Trump Administration, the organization has pushed towards eradicating illegal immigrants crossing the Mexican Border into the United States. Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants have been arrested since January of 2017, but to this day the situation has since escalated. Back in June of 2012, President Obama established the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. DACA allowed undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States at a young age to become eligible for a work permit, a Social Security card, a driver’s license, and deferred deportation.
Today, Trump has turned his back on DACA which leaves 1.8 million dreamers are at risk for deportation, and now wants to construct a $25 billion dollar wall at the Mexican border. For many, the U.S. is the only home they have ever known. These are our friends, classmates, colleagues, and neighbors. These are hardworking members of our communities who contribute to our economy and the fabric of our nation. They deserve an opportunity to continue pursuing their goals. This is the American dream and has been the foundation of our country for centuries.
