Social media has taken our lives by storm. Especially the lives of our generation: Generation Z. Recently, within the past couple of years, our consciousnesses have been taken over by one single object: our phones. I am not referring to plainly the phone itself. Those are actually pretty useful and practical. I mean what's on our phones, namely social media. Snapchat and Instagram are the primary applications of choice among teens today, however, Facebook and Twitter are very popular as well. I mean, I even own my fair share of social media. It is spreading rapidly, but some say too rapidly.
Today on social media everyone is way too worried about the number of likes on their post, or the number of followers on Instagram, or the number of days in a Snapchat streak. These should not matter as much as they appear to do. Most teens have all these apps and are worried about the numbers at one point even if you say you do not care there is probably a part of you that wishes you have more followers or a longer streak with this person.
Now, after all of this chat about how social media is taking over our lives, you're probably wanting some proof. According to Statista, there are currently 2.46 billion social media users in the world. There are 173 million Snapchat users a day and 800 million Instagram users per day. Surprisingly, Snapchat and Facebook are the two most popular social media apps among teens, Instagram following in at a close third. These statistics display the growing amount of users on social media and how fast it is growing among us teens.
