Skot Mcdonald, a bystander of September 11th 2001, shared his story “I was working in NYC for a music software company, living pretty much right next to the WTC on Greenwich Street. Our front door was up against the innermost security barrier surrounding the crater after the event. We were "refugees" for three months, sleeping on friends' couches and using Red Cross hotel vouchers until we were able to get in and reclaim our stuff. I was in the shower washing my hair when my parents (in Australia, watching CNN) rang us in NYC to give us a heads-up something was going down, then went out into street with cameras to get some "cool pics for our emails home" when we noticed bits starting to fall off the buildings. We started backing away and then had to run from a tidal wave of collapsing debris rushing down the street at us as the north tower collapsed.A flatmate had just popped back inside our building to get more film - it was five hours before we knew whether our building had been crushed and he was alive. We spent the next few hours stumbling around downtown in thick ash and smoke trying to evacuate up the east river to our work office in SoHo, where we were able to jump on the net and contact folks in Australia, and start a basic information service for our friends and family.”
Terrorism, the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims, has changed the way our world has functioned ever since the first encounter. 9/11 is the most notorious event of terrorism and it changed transportation, livelihoods, and security. According to the article “Terrorism” by opposing viewpoint it states, Terrorism is not a modern phenomenon. The ancient Greeks used it against their enemies, and some Roman emperors used it against those they saw as political threats. During the Spanish Inquisition, which began in the late 1400s, Catholic Church officials used terrorist methods to punish heretics, or those who held beliefs contrary to church teachings. The government has been doing everything in their power to prevent these unpredictable attacks but we need to help.
