The Sanctuary City Debate
There has been a big debate recently in the United States over sanctuary cities. What is a sanctuary city? It is defined as a “city in the United States that follows certain procedures that shelters illegal immigrants.” Sanctuary cities prevent the federal government from enforcing immigration laws and prevents lawful deportation of illegal aliens.
Sanctuary cities do not reduce crime and are in fact dangerous. Not only that, sanctuary cities violate federal law and are unconstitutional. Many families in sanctuary cities have been victimized by criminal illegal aliens who had been released from sanctuary cities like San Francisco. This type of crime could have been prevented if cities would follow federal immigration laws, making the country a safer place. Cities in America need to let ICE, or Immigration and Customs Enforcement, do their job, which is to ensure the safety of the United States.
