Our founding fathers believed in the people’s right to bear arms. They referred to the ordinary people with arms as a militia. The militia was formed to fight the British and get their freedom. The right to bear arms is one of our basic rights to protect the freedom of the United States.
Iowa Rep. Steve King posted a meme noting the Cuban heritage of Parkland survivor Emma Gonzalez and attacking her for ignoring “the fact that your ancestors fled the island when the dictatorship turned Cuba into a prison camp, after removing all weapons from its citizens; hence their right to self defense.” Dictators remove guns from their citizens in order to gain control and stop them from defending themselves.
John Douglas is a member of one of America’s militias, the Three Percenters. This group was founded off the ideology that when all other protections of the constitutional rights of Americans failed, organized Militias would step up to help maintain the order until a proper government came in to retake control. Douglas originally joined the group back in 2014 and has been a member ever since. He described the milita as “not only a way to help restore order when everything falls apart, but to help be a pillar of community. I’m trying my best to help folks here, and i don’t have to wait for the apocalypse to start helping now”.
Militias have long had a place in our nation’s history. They were the initial basis of resistance against British rule in the early days of the Revolution, and in more recent years, are formed as a civilian defense against the government. In general, militias have usually had a positive connotation associated with them, since they have been the backbone of many patriotic and pro-American foundations in this country. But as of recent years, many militias are receiving flak for their support of the second amendment and second amendment rights, which have become a hot topic of debate in America in recent years. Our main objective of this podcast is to discuss the true value of today’s militias, and whether or not they are considered to be applicable in today’s world.
