Stem cell research is the process of using cells to grow organs, and in time, possibly entire human beings. Over the past decade, there has been much controversy surrounding stem cell research because it used the cells of human embryos and many were worried this could be damaging to the embryos. Scientists have been searching for ways to continue their research without causing dissension. And they may have finally done it.
According to The Washington Post, recently, US and Korean researchers began to move forward creating stem cells from ordinary skin cells from human beings. This is a major breakthrough because there are little dangers from using skin cells scientists can continue research into stem cells and use this technology to heal others. In a broadcast from NPR's All Things Considered, there are many uses for stem cell growth such as human kidney growth. Kidneys are vital to the human body and if scientists can grow human kidneys, they can prevent kidney failure deaths.
