Texting while driving has been a growing problem in the twenty-first century. New technologies have made distracting driving so much worse. Many drivers do not know the risks they are taking when picking up their phone while behind the wheel. While texting, drivers minds are not thinking about the road but are thinking about their messages. Your only focus when driving such a powerful vehicle should be the things around you. Michael Fumento in his article "Texting and Driving Is More Risky than Driving Under the Influence" states, "One possible explanation for why we can't seem to keep our paws off those tiny keyboards is that surveys show that a vast majority of American drivers believe themselves to be above average."
In the future, I hope for new technologies that help reduce the outstanding numbers of people texting while driving. So many people have been killed or injured from the simple act of texting from behind the wheel. Please think about the people around you and yourself the next time you go out on the roads and want to look at your phone.
