Hockey Skills Academy--An opportunity for students to improve their hockey skills and knowledge through additional training, both on and off ice, while balancing their secondary studies.
The Hockey Skills Academy has developed over time and is proving to be an extremely positive experience for students. Beginning in 2004, Windsor Secondary School formed a partnership with N/C Hockey Group and was licensed by Hockey Canada as a Hockey Skills Academy. The Academy is an athlete-centered program aimed at developing the whole athlete.
The goal is to enhance a player's confidence and self-esteem while giving them opportunities beyond the secondary school system. Our role is to provide additional training for players, male or female, beginners or advanced, competitive or recreational, who wish to improve their hockey skills. On-ice instruction is provided by N/C Hockey Group. For more information, please view the link to the N/C Hockey website.
The framework of the program consists of following the national instruction curriculum as set out by Hockey Canada and is in compliance with the BC Ministry of Education provincial learning outcomes for physical education. Credit is received for PE at grade level; this is a school course.
The Hockey Skills Academy is a North Vancouver School District program and, as such, aligns with School District registration procedures. It is centred at École Secondaire Windsor Secondary but application is open to students from all schools. With the coordination of secondary school timetables within the North Vancouver School District, the program has become accessible to students outside the Windsor catchment area. Students may also be able to maintain their home school status and simultaneously participate in the program.
