AP Psychology 12
AP ENGLISH LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION 12
Prerequisite: Pre-AP English 11 and/or recommendation from English 11 teacher (A required summer reading assignment must be completed as part of this course.)
This course is comprised of an extensive program of university level literature, thus expanding the depth and the breadth of the English 12 curriculum. It engages students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature, and through the close reading of selected texts, students deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers. Writing is an integral part of the AP English course and exam, written in May, and the goal is to increase students’ ability to explain clearly, cogently, even elegantly, what they understand about literary works and why they interpret them as they do.
AP PSYCHOLOGY 12
Advanced Placement Psychology 12 is a first year university course offered at the high school level, giving students the opportunity to receive both secondary and university credit. Students are presented with an introduction to the science of psychology via investigation of behavioural and mental processes of human beings and other animals. Some areas of psychology examined in this course include the biological bases of behaviour, sensation and perception, states of consciousness, health psychology, learning and memory, motivation and emotion, personality, abnormal and social psychology, and the treatment of psychological disorders. This course prepares students to write the advanced placement exam in May. Psychology 11 is recommended but not required.
