Structure and Assessment
Grade 11 & 12 16 blocks or semesters of courses
Standard level 2 semesters
Higher level 3 semesters (University level course and exam in last semester)
Students must have 3 HL courses and one course from Groups 1 – 5 to graduate and an additional course from Groups 3, 4 or 6 (Visual Art HL).
Group 1 English SL, English A1 HL
Group 2 Spanish SL, French B SL
Group 3 History SL or HL, Geography SL or HL
Group 4 Biology SL or HL, Physics HL, Chemistry HL
Group 5 Math HL Calculus, Math SL
Grade 11: Students take one semester of all courses including TOK, plus one Grade 12 semester and exam for their Group 2 language of choice. This language course ends in May and then students use this time to work on their extended essay. This schedule comes to eight blocks, plus CAS 11 which will appear outside of the timetable second semester, but is started independently September 1st and runs on a consultation basis with Ms. Mackintosh, the CAS Coordinator.
Grade 12: Students take each of their selected HL course everyday all year. Their two SL courses run in one block on alternating days. CAS is the same as Grade 11. CAS 12 is outside of the timetable and students continue their work independently and meet with the CAS Coordinator independently and collectively to demonstrate their learning. TOK 12 appears in the schedule second semester but no classes are held. Students receive credit for the final electronic submission of their 1400 word essay by the IB Coordinator to IB.
Additional Requirements:
Theory of Knowledge course: In Grade 11 year, assessed by IB with a 1500 word essay and an oral presentation
Extended Essay timeline provided in Grade 11 year and is due in rough copy the first week of September in graduation year.CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) of 150 hours. First half due June 1st of Grade 11 and final half April 1st of Graduation Year.
