Within the National Science Fair Program, the Canada-Wide Science Fair constitutes the national championship round, where finalists from Regional Science Fairs across the country meet and compete.
In bringing Canada’s top young scientists together, the CWSF aims to accomplish two primary goals: to help participants benchmark their scientific and technological achievements against those of peers and to create a positive scientific and social experience for all the young people involved. A secondary goal is to expose other students in the CWSF’s geographic area to peer role models – the best young science and technology minds in the country.
The CWSF takes place in May in a different Canadian city each year. Youth Science Canada-affiliated Regional Science Fairs apply to host the CWSF up to four years in advance.
CWSF Hosting Application
Youth Science Canada is accepting applications from regions/organizations that are interested in hosting the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF). All particulars associated with developing an application are listed below.
Criteria affecting site selection include the capabilities of the host community, reliability and suitability of the “Host Team” and the proposed facilities. The CWSF Site Selection Committee will make final selection of a future CWSF site.
Youth Science Canada welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with you as you prepare the CWSF Hosting Application. If you have any questions, concerns, or simply wish to discuss a point, please do not hesitate to contact us. We encourage you to send us draft versions of your application so that we can provide feedback prior to the application’s official submission. If we can help in any other way, just ask.
The CWSF Hosting Application is the first step in a multi-stage site selection process. Submitting an application does not obligate your region/organization in any way. It simply indicates a strong interest in hosting a future CWSF and receiving a preliminary assessment of your proposal.
Youth Science Canada
Youth Science Canada is a national organization enabling youth science programs through partnerships at the regional, provincial and national levels. For almost 50 years, YSC has been the nation's leading organization for promoting innovation and celebrating excellence in science and technology among Canadian youth.
As a registered charitable organization, Youth Science Canada relies on the largest volunteer network of its kind in Canada – more than 8,000 dedicated parents, teachers and scientists – to help provide opportunities for competition, mentorship and recognition to Canada's young innovators.
CWSF Overview
Youth Science Canada is best known for its showcase event, the annual Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF). This week-long national competition takes place in a different location each year, rotating across Canada. The CWSF brings together approximately 550 students (grades 7-12) from over 100 regional fairs in every province and territory, along with 200 adult delegates and 375 highly qualified judges. These top young scientists compete for medals, cash awards, scholarships and other prizes worth nearly $1,000,000.
The event would not be possible without the dedication of a host committee, their entourage of volunteers, and the support of the local community.
