Karen Brashears and Stevie Lamar played a very tough match against Ardell Stoops and Elaine Wolfe today at Kingswood. They started right off with the first hole won by Stoops and the second was a birdie for Elaine that put that team up by 2 after just 2 holes. Karen took the 4th and 5th holes for her team to get back to even. Ardell took #6 with a par and a pop to go up by 1 again and the front nine concluded with Stoops and Wolfe one up. Number 10 was a win for Brashears/Lamar with a par, making the match even again – then Brashears birdied #11 to go 1 up, Lamar took #12 with a par to get to 2 up. Wolfe’s par and pop gave them hole 13. Three of the four players hit the water in front of the green on 14 (some of them twice!) – the hole was conceded when Brashears was over the water and pin high in 3 shots. Brashears/Lamar were again 2 up. Wolfe took #15 with par and a pop to bring them within one. The 16th hole was split, and the 17th again a win for Wolfe to make the match all square with one to play. Brashears hit the green in regulation with an easy 2 putt for par; Wolfe just missed a 5 footer for the tie and a playoff – so it was a hard-fought (really hard!) one-up win for Brashears and Lamar.
